Cyberattacks in Cameroon Surge by 91% in 2024.

Cameroon is facing an alarming rise in cyberattacks, with over 333,900 security breach exploits recorded in 2024—a shocking 91% increase from the previous year. This surge underscores the country’s growing digital vulnerabilities and the urgent need for stronger cybersecurity measures.

The alarming statistics were revealed by Kaspersky, a leading cybersecurity firm, during a recent cybersecurity awareness conference held in Douala and Yaoundé. Experts at the event warned that remote access systems, government institutions, and business networks are increasingly becoming prime targets for cybercriminals.

The report highlights the exploitation of weak security protocols, particularly Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) breaches and backdoor attacks, allowing hackers to gain unauthorized access to critical systems. With cyber threats evolving rapidly, experts stress the importance of adopting advanced cybersecurity solutions, implementing stricter access controls, and raising public awareness about digital security risks.

As Cameroon continues its digital transformation, strengthening cybersecurity infrastructure has become a national priority to protect sensitive data, businesses, and essential services from sophisticated cyber threats.
